Driving Technology: Improving our Night Vision

Night vision made its first appearance in regular production automobiles nearly 20 years ago with thermal sensors from Teledyne FLIR. Today, infrared (IR) imaging, time-of-flight, and combinations of IR with visible imaging are advanced technologies that when combined with artificial intelligence, go a long way toward helping drivers and eventually autonomous vehicles automatically detect and classify pedestrians, vehicles, traffic signs, animals, and other obstacles that could result in life-threatening or even fatal collisions.

Teledyne DALSA, Teledyne e2v, and Teledyne’s newest acquisition, Teledyne FLIR, all contribute industry leading critical technologies to help keep us and others safe on our roads.
