Teledyne TapTone Features a Lightweighted Plastic Bottle Inspection Solution at PackExpo

NORTH FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS, November 4, 2008 - Teledyne TapTone, a leading manufacturer of package inspection systems for the food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, announced today that it will have a special display at the PackExpo International show to address leak detection in lightweighted plastic containers. The display will incorporate a liquid nitrogen doser (courtesy of Cryotech International) and a TapTone 1000 Force System with X-ray fill height inspection. The display is designed to showcase the issues associated with reducing the amount of plastic in the sidewall of beverage containers and how the TapTone systems can help identify and diagnose defective containers. The display will demonstrate how Teledyne TapTone’s systems can accurately detect leaks, underfills, overfills, over-pressurized and under-pressurized containers in liquid nitrogen-dosed and carbonated beverage containers.

Sustainable packaging initiatives have been the driving force in efforts to lightweight plastic and metal beverage containers. The initiative has been fueled by many factors including Wal-Marts’ Sustainable Packaging Scorecard. The TapTone 1000 Force System can detect changes in pressure as small as 2 psi. When combined with optional sensors, the system will also perform fill level inspection and cap inspection. “There are many aspects that have to be considered when lightweighting beverage containers. These containers are more prone to defects. Our systems can help processors identify and diagnose the main cause of the defect and then remove those containers from the line.” says Rick Reardon, Teledyne TapTone’s Regional Sales Manager.
