Teledyne Brown Engineering Wins Environmental Analytical Services Contracts

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (May 9, 2002)-Teledyne Brown Engineering announced today it is the winner of two contracts from the Exelon Generation Company, LLC, of Kennett Square, Pa., and Warrenville, Ill., to provide environmental analytical services.

Teledyne Brown's radiological services laboratory in Knoxville, Tenn., will provide radio-analytical services in support of 10 nuclear power plants under the Exelon corporate umbrella. These services will be performed in accordance with pertinent Federal regulatory provisions that govern the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's acquisition practices. The contract performance period is three years.

These regulatory guidelines address radiological monitoring of all liquid and gaseous effluents, and govern the characterization of radioactive wastes intended for disposal. Teledyne Brown's Knoxville lab is uniquely qualified, through its certification, to handle the higher levels of radioactivity routinely found in these samples.

Additionally, Exelon awarded Teledyne Brown a second two-year contract, with a one-year option, to provide primary radio-analytical services in support of Radiological Environmental Monitoring Programs (REMP) at four of Exelon's nuclear power plants. Each plant must have a REMP in place to monitor radioactivity in areas immediately surrounding the plant. These REMP programs routinely collect air, milk, water, fish, and soil samples for monitoring.

Teledyne Brown will provide secondary lab (quality control) support at the remaining six Exelon plants.

"Our Knoxville Laboratory has a long history of providing quality support to the nuclear power industry, and these contracts continue that tradition," said James M. Link, president of Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Marty Runkle, vice president for Teledyne Brown's Systems Group, said, "Our facilities in Knoxville are state-of-the art, and we're appreciative of the confidence and trust Exelon places in our people and their capabilities. We look forward to a long and valued relationship with Exelon."
