Teledyne Brown Wins Contract To Monitor Dismantling of Russian Federation Nuclear Submarines

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (February 28, 2005) - Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced today that it has been awarded a contract valued up to $2 million over a period of three years with the Canadian government to monitor the dismantling of nuclear-powered submarines in the Russian Federation. The work is part of Canada's $1 billion pledge under the G8 Global Partnership Program to safeguard the world from the spread of weapons and materials of mass destruction.

Under the contract with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), Teledyne Brown will provide services to Foreign Affairs Canada (FAC) through its Global Partnership Program (GPX) bureau, on the progress of transporting, de-fueling and dismantling nuclear-powered submarines at the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Engineering Plant (FSUE EP) Zvezdochka in Severodvinsk, Russia. As part of the monitoring project, the company will also report on environmental, health and safety practices during submarine dismantlement operations.

"Teledyne Brown is playing an important role in helping to end the proliferation of nuclear arms and ensure the national security of our country," said Jim Link, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering. "The award of this contract extends Teledyne Brown's experience in weapons demilitarization and represents a significant growth opportunity for Teledyne Brown."

In 2004, PWGSC awarded Teledyne Brown a contract to provide professional negotiation support services to the GPX for Canadian-funded nuclear submarine dismantlement projects in the Russian Federation. Since then, Teledyne Brown has successfully provided negotiation services between the GPX and FSUE EP Zvezdochka on that initiative. Canada has indicated its plans to conclude annual agreements to support the dismantlement of 12 submarines at a total cost of approximately $116 million Canadian Dollars.

The monitoring services contract provides Teledyne Brown the opportunity to continue assisting the Canadian Government in achieving its Global Partnership Program objectives.
