Teledyne Brown Engineering Wins NATO Contract

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (June 1, 2001)-Teledyne Brown Engineering announced today it has been selected by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Command, Control and Consultation Agency (NATO NC3A) in Brussels, Belgium, and The Hague, The Netherlands to be a participant contractor in NATO's Basic Ordering Agreement Program.

A Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) is a procurement mechanism designed to provide NATO organizations with an accelerated, cost-effective method for purchasing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products and services.

Under NATO's BOA program, companies work on a one-year, renewable (by NC3A) contract. Although the potential value of the BOA to Teledyne Brown is unknown, more than $18 million in acquisition funds was channeled through BOAs by the NATO Infrastructure Committee during 2000. The BOA program is designed to foster an environment conducive to maximizing the participation of qualified firms in the NATO Security Investment Program (NSIP).

Teledyne Brown will provide its products and services through the BOA, which identifies and sets prices for COTS products and services available from companies in the 19 NATO nations. The services include consultant work, engineering services for integration and installation, and the conduct of studies.

"This contract provides for our entry into the NATO market, and will be a vehicle for enhancing our reputation with European companies," said Richard A. (Dick) Holloway, president of Teledyne Brown Engineering. "We hope this will open additional partnering opportunities in our defense and other product lines."

Doug Bryant, vice president for Systems Engineering and Integration at Teledyne Brown, said the contract "allows us to open new markets for our engineering services and distributed real-time systems product lines."

Bryant added, "The current NATO focus addressing command and control system issues, as well as air and missile defense upgrades, is consistent with our historical business base and experience with the U.S. government."
