Teledyne Energy Systems, Inc. Introduces Automated PEM Fuel Cell Test Stations

LOS ANGELES - August 22, 2001 - Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) today announced that Teledyne Energy Systems, Inc. delivered its first three Teledyne Medusa RD automated fuel cell test stations, used in testing and evaluating Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell products.

Teledyne Medusa RD is a next generation fuel cell test station that provides an easy-to-use platform for the automated testing of fuel cell components and stacks rated at less than one kilowatt. The test station provides a Windowsä-based interface that enables the user to begin immediate testing without special facilities, training or programming skills. The system includes hydrogen plumbing, electronic load, process control, and safety systems designed to support unattended 24-hour per day testing under conditions likely to be encountered by a PEM fuel cell designed for automotive or stationary applications.

The Teledyne Medusa RD system is the result of an alliance between Teledyne Energy Systems and Scribner Associates, Inc. Teledyne Energy Systems is responsible for developing and providing the gas system, overall system integration, sales and support. Scribner Associates, a recognized leader in equipment for electrochemical research, supplies its FuelCellä software and electronic loads. The finished system is an integrated unit mounted in a standard 19-inch rack that requires less than three square feet of lab desk space for installation.
